ART AT THE FERGUSON

The SAA curates several "Art at the Ferguson" exhibits at the Ferguson Library annually.

Dreams in Full View

Dreams in Full View, curated by Tara Blackwell, features works by regional artists of color. Across different media, styles, and perspectives, the artists share personal narratives and collective hopes, honoring everyday moments and visions for the future. Together, these works remind us that dreaming is not only about what lies ahead, but also about the hopes carried forward from the past and what continues to live in the present. This exhibition invites viewers to experience the beauty, strength, and joy that emerge when dreams are made visible, shared, and celebrated.

Featured artists include: Kristin Armani Hill, Mike Bazelais, Jean Benoit, Tara Blackwell, Lauren Clayton, Lila Malone, Aisha Nailah, Sain’t Phifer, Laurie Rivera, Sherron Robinson, Sharon Smalls, Remy Sosa, Chardel Studio, and Tiara Trent.

An opening reception will take place on Wednesday, February 11, from 5:30–7:00 PM, and will feature a spoken word performance by Sahmra Sawyer, Founder of We’ve Got Something to Say, a creative platform that promotes mental health and well-being through poetry by creating safe spaces for diverse voices to be heard. The exhibition will be on view through March 26.

The Curator

Tara Blackwell is an artist, curator, and educator based in Stamford, Connecticut. Her vibrant, layered artwork explores social justice themes through the lens of childhood memory and nostalgic pop culture. Raised in an artistic household, Blackwell developed an early appreciation for creative expression, shaping a practice that balances playfulness with pointed social commentary. Her work has been exhibited throughout New York and Connecticut and includes collaborations with corporate brands such as West Elm and 7 For All Mankind.

Alongside her studio practice, Tara Blackwell’s curatorial work focuses on celebrating diverse voices, supporting emerging artists, and creating community-engaged exhibitions rooted in storytelling. She has curated exhibitions throughout Connecticut that prioritize access, collaboration, and lived experience. During her tenure at Purchase College, Blackwell counseled numerous creative students on their career journeys and continues to support students at the University of Connecticut. She was selected as a member of the inaugural Korry Fellows cohort at The Norwalk Art Space, where she now serves on the board and the resident artist selection committee, continuing her commitment to artist advocacy and mentorship. An active collaborator with nonprofit organizations, she was also the featured artist for LiveGirl, inspiring and empowering young girls through creative engagement. Through her combined roles as artist, curator, and educator, Tara Blackwell uses art as a tool for connection and social impact.
