FIrst Place
The SAA curates several "Art at the Ferguson" exhibits at the Ferguson Library annually.
This is a multimedia juried exhibit with cash prizes. We are asking artists to submit 1-5 pieces of artwork on the theme of 'BeautiFall Moments'. This theme is meant to inspire artists' creativity and is open to interpretation!
Aeon is a happy corporate executive "refugee," leveraging finance, business, leadership skills and experiences honed at blue chip banks to build companies and invest privately. His chosen exit ramp passions focus on investment management, serial entrepreneurship, and globe-trotting art lover, defining "dream second acts.”
Aeon is an avid, eclectic Art Collector (artmuze.com), and past Board Member of STILL Artist Residence and the Center for Contemporary of Printmaking in Norwalk CT. He holds degrees from Hamilton College (BA), Brooklyn College (MA), and the University Virginia (Darden MBA).
It has been a pleasure to serve as the juror for the "BeautiFall Moments" exhibit. The theme, rooted in the beauty of the fall season, allowed artists a wide scope for interpretation. The result is a compelling collection of works that offer diverse perspectives on autumn’s transitions. Each piece demonstrates thoughtful use of medium, strong composition, and emotional depth, making the selection process both rewarding and challenging.
In selecting the winners, I evaluated how each work engaged with the theme, the artist’s technical mastery, the clarity of the visual narrative, and the overall execution.
Winner Announcement
First Place: Frank Greco, "Autumn Reflection," Oil on Canvas.
Greco's "Autumn Reflection" captivates with its vibrant, textured portrayal of fall. The impasto technique evokes energy, and the interplay of competing colors creates a dynamic tension. His use of bold, New England-inspired hues transports the viewer into a crisp autumn landscape. This piece stands out for its striking balance of movement and stillness, capturing the fleeting nature of fall with every brushstroke.
Second Place: Jyoti Desai, "Lost in Thought," Acrylic on Canvas.
Desai’s "Lost in Thought" pushes the boundaries of a fall abstraction while maintaining a connection to the theme. The work’s bold, yet harmonious colors create an abstract interpretation of fall that feels both vibrant and introspective. The composition offers a unique perspective, a window into a void, imaginative fall world, water-like, cosmic. The many colors somehow work harmoniously with excitement. Desai’s innovative approach and mastery of acrylics make this piece a standout.
Third Place: Barbara Mathis, "Trick or Treat," Oil on Canvas.
Mathis’ "Trick or Treat" offers a fresh take on fall through its use of iconic Halloween imagery. The central figure, evoking Elvira, introduces a playful yet eerie tone, with the stark grey background contrasting against the figure's vibrant costume. The piece hints at themes of gender fluidity and subversion, blending masculinity and femininity in a way that invites deeper reflection. Mathis’ strong composition and color choices make this a memorable work.
Honorable Mention: Meg le Comte, "Canyon Sunset," Acrylic, Copper Foil, and Collage.
Though not a traditional New England fall landscape, le Comte’s "Canyon Sunset" captures the hues and essence of the season. The innovative use of mixed media creates a layered, textured landscape that evokes the natural transitions of fall.
